We are running a study in which we include a number of gender-orientation questions using Likert scales (example below, using a scale 'agree' that we have defined). Given the sensitivity of the questions, we want to make them optional (in fact we are required by our ethics committee to do this). Unlike most other question types, 't: scale' does not default to optional and it seems that 'o: open' to allow a question to be skipped only applies to 't: radio'. So we are struggling to find a way of making 't: scale' questions optional. Has anyone found a way of doing this?
l: gender_questions_1
o: width 30%
q: Please indicate on a scale of 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree) how much you agree with each of the following statements.
t: scale agree
- Women, compared to men, tend to have greater moral sensibility.
- Women are too easily offended.
- Women exaggerate problems they have at work.
- It is OK if some groups have more of a chance in life than others.
- Men should watch football games instead of soap operas.
- I would be comfortable with a transgender or non-binary person as a friend.

I'm not sure what has happened, but this seems to have resolved itself and the 't: scale' questions are now running as optional questions ;-) Correction - this did not resolve itself - I was in 'test' mode. I can't see a way of making 't: scale' questions optional in an actual survey, though clearly they can be optional in test mode.
