My ethics board requires me to save and retain informed consent. The electronic checkbox is fine, however I need to have some indication in the participant's retained data that they did indeed click the box in agreement to participate. Is there any way for the data to show a "yes" if they clicked the box? I realize that participants cannot get to the study without checking the box and clicking the button, however this is the ethics board, and their rules state that we must keep informed consent on file for a minimum of three years. This was one of the reason my research proposal was rejected by the board. Any solutions are greatly appreciated. We are recruiting participants through MTurk, so I don't know if there is a different way we could do informed consent through that before they are taken to the PsyToolkit survey. This is my first online study and I don't know all the things. Jess

Dear Jessica,
I am sorry that you have to deal with such an IRB.
Basically, you need to tell them something like this:
"Participants are invited to an online survey. The first "screen" of the survey is the consent screen, which requires a tickbox agreement. Without agreeing with the consent screen, it is impossible for participants to continue. "
Of course, you can ask the IRB this:
"I assume that you have reviewed online surveys before. Could you please let me know how exactly online consent forms for anonymous surveys can possibly be saved"
Alternatively, you could say that the Unique Identifier (as available on the downloadable form) is a unique identifier indicating the participant's consent.
If they still not will approve it, I would go speak with them in person and explain them the situation. I am also happy to speak to them if they have questions.

Thank you very much for the advice. I explained this to them in my own words, and it took a while but they just approved it this week. I really appreciate your help. Jess
